Fielder reportedly agrees to $18M deal

The Milwaukee Brewers and first baseman Prince Fielder have reached terms on a two-year contract worth $18 million, according to media reports.

The deal is pending Fielder passing a physical. He was eligible for arbitration this year for the first time.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Fielder had filed an arbitration request of $8 million for 2009 and that the Brewers countered with a $6 million offer. At that point, the sides' talks progressed to include covering two years of arbitration, the newspaper said.

Fielder had a strong third season in the majors, hitting .276 with 34 home runs and 102 RBIs, a suitable encore to his 50-homer, 119-RBIs 2007 season.
